With heavy hearts and deep love, we say goodbye to Tony Allen Pluto who passed away on Saturday, July 19, 2025 in Calgary, Alberta at the age of 66 years.
Born with a strong work ethic, Tony got his start in the autobody industry at just 16 years old in Forest Lawn. What began as a young man learning to work with his hands became a lifelong devotion to building, fixing, and taking pride in a job well done. He later transitioned to work as an insurance appraiser, and finally found his true calling as a construction labourer, dedicating the final chapter of his working life to the trades. Tony was especially proud of his time with Ellis Don, where he helped build the South Health Campus, Calgary, Alberta - a project that stood as more than concrete and steel to him; it was a legacy. One of the highlights of his career came when he shared a job site and a summer's worth of sweat and laughter with his son, Shayne - a time he treasured deeply.
Known for his kindness and sense of humour, Tony was the second oldest of five siblings, and never passed up the chance to crack a joke or bring a smile to someone's face. Born with a love for the outdoors and sports, Tony was a gifted athlete, and excelled at every sport he tried. He was an avid downhill skiier who loved to tear up the slopes. A passionate hockey player, a tough-as-nails left winger who played the game with heart. A lifelong Calgary Flames fan, he bled red and carried his love for the game well past his playing years. This included teaching both of his children how to skate at a young age and instilling a passion for sport in both of them. But above all, Tony found his greatest peace and joy on the golf course where he felt most himself. It was always a special and treasured round when he got to play with his kids - Serena and Shayne. Tony lived a life of hard work, loyalty, laughter, and love. He leaves behind a legacy not just in the buildings he helped raise or the ice he once tore across, but in the hearts of all who knew him. He was a man's man, but with a heart big enough for all. He will be missed, remembered, and honoured always.
Tony is survived by his daughter, Serena Pluto (Justin Haight); son, Shayne (Shelby) Pluto; the mother of his children, Debi Pluto; his caregiver and friend, Marcene Metcalfe; and many extended family and friends. Tony was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Joyce Pluto; his sister, Dawn; and his brother, Darrin (aka Darwin).
A Celebration of Life will take place at a later date.
