Obituary
Tony Llyvon Skeen was born on January 13, 1948, to the late Ira and Catherine Bohannon Skeen in Thomasville, North Carolina.
On January 19, 2023, after 75 years, his earthly life came to a close beginning his eternal chapter.
Tony was lovingly referred to as Dad, Pops, Peedee and most of all, "The Shoeman". He received his formal education at Church Street School in Thomasville, NC. During his final years of high school, he began to explore and develop skills as a cobbler, under his mentor, friend and business partner, Clarence Harper.
Tony began his professional career in uptown Thomasville at Wall Shoe Shop as a shoemaker, then transitioned to work at Thomasville Furniture Industries at Plant C. During his tenure at TFI, he was responsible for furniture finishing. For over 25 years, he owned and operated Crooks Shoe Shop in Lexington, NC, as the Master Craftsman, where he repaired and restored shoes, bags, belts and more. Tony developed a personal rapport with each of his customers and remained committed to serving members of the greater Triad area as long as God allowed him to.
In his leisure time, he enjoyed watching Westerns, spending time with friends, napping and rooting on the Carolina Panthers and Tar Heels. Also, he loved taking care of his family and friends in "Grannytown" and was known for making witty remarks!
Tony will be fondly remembered by his family and friends for his generosity, strong-willed mindset, calm spirit and infectious smirk.
He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings: Ronald Skeen, Shirley Taylor, Catherine Smith, Joan Gillis, Diann Hoggard, Daynise Skeen and Julius Skeen.
Many loving and fond memories will be cherished by: his wife, Fannie; his daughters: Deanna "Shay" Skeen Hill (Richard) of High Point, NC, Kelly Skeen of Morrisville, NC, Adria Skeen of Thomasville, NC; his sons: Antoine Steele of Thomasville, NC, James Steele of Augusta, Georgia and Brandon Steele of Thomasville, NC; fifteen grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings: Patricia Bolton and Travis Skeen (Sarah), both of Thomasville; his fur-son, Coco; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
