JACKSON CENTER - Verla Irene Skeen, 80, of Jackson Center, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2026, at Versailles Rehab and Healthcare Center.
Verla was born in Bellefontaine on June 4, 1945, to the late Edward L. and Julie I. (Boyer) Zimmerman. She was also preceded in death by a sister Martha Taylor, brothers James and Norman Zimmerman, brothers-in-law James Taylor, William Etgen and a niece Carolyn Etgen.
Verla married Richard B. Skeen on August 20, 1976, in Bellefontaine and he survives in Jackson Center. She is also survived by their children, Steven Skeen and Martha Skeen; a grandson Matthew Skeen; brother Thomas (Laurie) Zimmerman; nieces and nephews: Kimberly Taylor, Anne Etgen, Mike Etgen, Kathy Etgen, David Etgen, Mary Etgen, Nipa Polnoi, Nam Kue, and Tommy Horne; and sisters-in-law: Jesslyn Etgen and Carol Ann Skeen.
Verla attended Hobe Sound Bible College. Verla was a member of the Lima Pilgrim Holiness Church. She enjoyed reading, puzzles, and visiting with family and friends. She was someone who never knew a stranger and made friends everywhere she went.
Rev. Donald Nichols will officiate Verla's memorial service on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at 11am at Lewistown-Trinity United Methodist Church, 8088 Co. Rd. 54, Lewistown, Ohio. Private family burial will be in Plum Cemetery, Bloom Center, Ohio at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Lima Pilgrim Holiness Church, 2100 W. Breese Road, Lima, OH 45806. Every memory I have of Verla involves laughing. No matter who you were, she could make you laugh. She loved her family so much, especially her husband Richard, and her children Steve and Martha. She will be missed.
