Tonya Stange Smith of Scott AFB, Illinois and formerly of Tuscaloosa, Alabama passed away on Sunday, December 10, 2023 at Memorial Hospital in Shiloh, Illinois at the age of 45.
She was born in Douglasville, GA to the late Donald and Jennifer Stange on October 7, 1978.
Tonya was a 1997 graduate of Douglasville High School and a 2005 graduate of the University of Alabama with a Bachelor’s degree in Personal Financial Planning. Tonya was a proud military wife who exemplified all the strength associated with a life of constant change, challenge, and excitement. She was the pillar of her family, standing strong in both good and bad times. More importantly, she was the mother of an amazing daughter that is the light of their lives.
She is survived by her husband of 21 years, Christopher W. Smith; her daughter, Savannah Smith; her parents, David and Connie Smith, siblings, Susie (Jesse) Brasher, Shea (Brett) Watson, Joshua (Hannah) Smith, Autumn (Avery McCarley), Nikki (Mark) Beasley; father-in-law, Frank (Jean) Smith; mother-in-law, Tina (Dan) Henderson; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, December 18, 2023 from the Faith Baptist Church in Plantersville, Alabama with Rev. Bo DeLoach officiating at 10:00 a.m.
Interment will be at 12:30 p.m. in the Alabama National Cemetery in Montevallo, Alabama.
Pallbearers will be Joshua Smith, Brett Watson, Jesse Brasher, Avery McCarley, Jimmy Poe, and Jamie Atchison.
Visitation will held on Sunday, December 17, 2023 from 5-7 p.m. at Faith Baptist Church.
Final care and arrangements have been entrusted to the Selma Funeral Home of Valley Grande, Alabama.
