Torben Aabo

Torben Aabo, age 85, passed away on Tuesday, November 25, 2025. Torben was born in Hanerup, Denmark on August 28, 1940, to Karl Sander and Nina (Iversen) Aabo. On his mother's 22nd birthday, April 9, 1940, pregnant with Torben, the Germans invaded Denmark, and for the next five years Denmark was occupied by the Germans, where his father was part of the underground resistance. Torben grew up on a farm, and his parents were very community oriented.
Torben was very proud of his service as a second lieutenant in the Royal Danish Air Force. He met the love of his life, Jean Falotico, from America, in 1968 and they wed in Denmark on December 30, 1969. At the time, you were required to post your marriage on the church door 60 days before the wedding, so the Danish Queen needed to approve their marriage – and she did! They married again in 1970 in Westwood, New Jersey. When Torben immigrated to America he had already secured an electrical engineering job.
In 1995, Torben and Jean started their consulting engineering company. Part of their success can be contributed to Torben's involvement with the IEEE's Insulated Conductors Committee throughout his professional career. Torben authored and coauthored more than 25 technical papers and articles. His work took him all over the world, including Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Australia, and numerous other countries, many of which Jean accompanied him on. Torben and Jean operated Power Cable Consultants until 2021.
Torben and Jean raised their two children, Christina (Matt Petrillose) and David (Meghan McNeil), in a country setting in Charlton, NY, where they had horses, chickens, and dogs. Membership in Saratoga County 4-H was a great educational and bonding activity for the whole family. The Saratoga and State Fair memories were especially treasured. Torben, Jean, Christina, and David took many trips to Denmark and enjoyed time there with Torben's family. After Christina and David were married, the entire family including spouses went on a memorable trip together to Denmark.
Early on, Torben got involved in local politics, but soon realized he did not fit in. He later became the president of the Charlton Historical Society, securing preservation of the One Room Schoolhouse in Charlton. He was instrumental in setting up the committee to restore Tayler Hall, the first Town Hall in Charlton, which is now the Charlton Community Center. He also thrived as president of the Charlton Seniors.
Torben was an active member of the Ballston Center Church, where he was ordained as a deacon in 1995. He participated in maintaining the church property, took on construction projects, and was involved in the mercy ministry outreach.
In addition to his wife and children, Torben leaves behind his two grandchildren, Max and Beckett. Torben looked forward to seeing their accomplishments as part of the future Americans, believing in, and fulfilling The American Dream, just as he did. Life was truly good for Torben. Torben had two brothers, Jes and Soren, and one sister, Hanne Aabo-Jensen, all residing in Denmark.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Ballston Center Church, 58 Charlton Rd, Ballston Spa, NY, on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, at 11:00 AM. A reception will immediately follow at the church.
The burial will be held privately for the family at Sweetman Cemetery, Charlton, NY.
