Travis Meier Obituary

Travis Meier, 50, of Chippewa Falls, died Saturday, September 23, 2023, at Mayo Clinic Health System in Eau Claire.

On April 17, 1973, Travis, “Taxi Trav,” was born to William and Donna (Dirks) Meier in Chippewa Falls. Travis graduated from Chippewa Valley High School with the class of 1993. Travis worked with the DECA program at Gutknecht’s and worked at various other jobs throughout his life. He was currently employed with Chippewa River Industries.

Most people could run into Trav walking around town or visiting some of his favorite watering-holes. He walked through life making lasting friendships with people who truly accepted him for who he was. “Taxi Trav” drove many people safely home during his 13 years as a Chippewa Taxi Driver.

Travis had a gift for writing. We are left with many cards and writing with his sentiments that will be cherished forever. He was a record collector; his music was his therapy. Trav would welcome a visitor to drink a cup of coffee, smoke a cigarette, and turn a record. When he was alone, he passed the time reading books and listening to the Brewers, Packers, and Badgers on the radio. His nieces and nephews will miss the generous, and often humorous gifts, that always put a smile on the family’s faces.

He never lacked generosity, kindness, compassion, or understanding. Knowing how much of a giver he was, the family made the decision to keep him on life support until the perfect recipients could be matched with his organs. On Tuesday morning he left with UW-Madison Organ and Tissue Donation to share his liver, kidneys, and lungs with those individuals so they can continue to make memories in the years ahead.

As one precious friend commented, “Without asking anything in return - he is granting the world’s most selfless possible gift as his final mic drop. And almost poetically, with this final act, he will achieve the only thing he ever really wanted: to be 100% appreciated.”-Ryan Lenfesty

Travis is survived by his mother, Donna; two brothers, Kevin (Karrie) Meier of Chippewa Falls and Jerod (significant other, Sarah Jochum) of Eau Claire; two sisters, Carla (Tom) Golden of Chippewa Falls and Sarah (Ryan) Waak of Menomonie; uncle, Joseph (Karen) Meier of Summerfield, FL; three aunts, Henrietta McKichan of Stoughton, WI, Constance Calem of Freeport, IL and Linda Dirks of Albuquerque, NM; nieces and nephews, Gillian, Lillian, Jaiden, Jonah, Thomas, Otto, Lydia and Claira.

Travis was preceded in death by his father, Bill; grandparents, John & Marie Meier and Robert & Leatrice Dirks; uncle, John Meier; aunt, Patricia Brekke.

The visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, September 27, 2023, at Pederson-Volker Funeral Chapel, 44 E. Columbia St., Chippewa Falls.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 12 noon, on Thursday, September 28, 2023, at Holy Ghost Catholic Church, 412 S. Main St, Chippewa Falls, with a visitation one hour prior to mass at church. Fr. Brandon Guenther will be officiating. A private interment will be held at a later date in Forest Hill Cemetery, Chippewa Falls.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the staff at St. Joseph and Mayo Hospital for all their loving care given to Travis.
