Floydada - Travis Young, age 89, of Floydada, passed away on Saturday, October 18, 2025 in Amarillo. Graveside Services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the Floyd County Memorial Park in Floydada with Rance Young officiating. Family Visitation will be 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 22, 2025 at Moore-Rose Funeral Home in Floydada. Arrangements are under the personal care of Moore-Rose Funeral Home of Floydada.

Travis was born June 28, 1936 to R.E. and Ola Mae Ragan and raised on the family farm north of South Plains, Texas. He helped his Dad, R.E. work the farm until he enlisted in the Army in November 1954 at the age of 18. He was stationed in Germany for two years where he trained and served on a Howitzer gun crew. When he returned home in November 1956 he continued farming with his Dad and his brother, Deral. He and Deral established Young Brothers, where they farmed their own property as well as others in the community.
Travis's younger sister, Donnie, brought home a friend named Margie Turner, who later became his wife on July 23, 1958. They were blessed with four children, Kirk, Lori (King), Shandra (Simpson) and Kenneth. While living in South Plains, Travis was active at South Plains Baptist Church, serving as treasurer. He also served as scout master when his sons joined the Boy Scouts of America. You could find Travis and Margie speeding to Silverton to kick up their heels, square dancing with friends most Saturday nights.

He introduced his children to hiking, exploring and swimming at Lingos Falls, taking them often on sunny Sunday afternoons. His other interests included writing lines of poetry and wit, pencil sketching and crafting items from old fence pickets. He also loved trekking on his bicycle, collecting rocks and riding horses. Travis continued farming until 1975 when he retired. Not being one to sit still, he then worked jobs in and around Floydada.

He is survived by his wife of 64 years and four children listed above, five grandchildren, Zach King, wife Rachel; Jana, husband Ali Ketabchi; Ashlee, husband Dave Sekera; Cassie, husband Justin Mason; and Morgan, husband Alex Branch; five great grandchildren, Ava King, Liam Sekera, Jay Mason, Carter Mason and Brooks Mason.

He is survived by one sister, Mary Shurbet of Lubbock and many nieces and nephews.
