Troy David Root, age 64, of New Richland, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on July 4, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Troy grew up on a farm in New Richland and was the son of Orville “Buck” and Monica Root. He graduated from New Richland High School and went on to work at the Southern Experiment Station, where he found great joy working with animals—something he was deeply passionate about. Troy had a lifelong love for farming and built a meaningful life on the family farm just outside of New Richland.
On October 8th, 1988, Troy married Cheryl (Hedin) Root. Together, they created a life centered around hard work, love, and family.
Troy was known for his tireless work ethic and his ability to tackle any project, but he also knew how to enjoy life. He loved being outdoors, especially on his farm, and was happiest when surrounded by family. Whether he was taking the grandkids for rides in the side-by-side, supervising deer camp, or enjoying the annual family trip to Leech Lake, Troy cherished every moment spent with those he loved.
Above all, Troy was a devoted husband, father, and grandpa. His family was his greatest pride, and he poured his heart into creating lasting memories with them. He will be remembered for his strength, quick-witted sense of humor, and the invaluable life lessons he passed down to many.
Troy is survived by his loving wife, Cheryl Root of New Richland; son David (Rachel) Root and their children, Olivia and Huck; son Dallas (Kristi) Root and their children, Rylan and Adalyn; brothers Buddy (Kay), Keith, and Richard Root; sisters Mary Root and Ann (Jeff) Ruedy; and many beloved nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville “Buck” and Monica Root, sister-in-law, Rita Root, and aunts and uncles.
Troy’s legacy of love, strength, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00AM on Tuesday, July 15, 2025, at St. Peter Evangelical Church in New Richland, with Pastor Scott Williams officiating. The family will receive friends at visitations to be held from 4:00-7:00PM on Monday, July 14, 2025, at Friedrich’s Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at church.
