Beloved educator, counselor, and devoted Christian
Trudy Elizabeth Cox Clements, a cherished teacher, counselor, and woman of deep faith, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, April 2, 2025, in Jackson, Mississippi.
Born in Shreveport, Louisiana, Trudy eventually made Jackson her home, where she lived a life marked by compassion, creativity, and service to others. She earned a B.A. in Fine Art from Mississippi University for Women, and her love of beauty and expression led her to a career in education. At St. Richard's Catholic School in Jackson, she taught art with a passion that left a lasting impression on generations of students. Known for her warmth and encouragement, Trudy remembered her students long after they left her classroom-and many never forgot her, describing her as the teacher who changed their lives.
Her love of learning never waned. While teaching, Trudy pursued a Master's in Counseling from Mississippi College. Her dedication to mental health and student well-being led her to work with the renowned Dr. William Glasser, earning certifications in Choice Theory and Reality Therapy. She continued her education to earn a Specialist in Education degree and served as a school counselor within the Jackson Public School District, most notably at Power APAC. Her ability to listen with empathy and offer thoughtful guidance made her a trusted presence in the lives of countless students and families.
In her later years, Trudy brought her talents to the private sector, working at Brentwood Behavioral Healthcare. There, she continued her life's mission of healing and encouragement through both individual and group counseling, helping people navigate some of their most difficult moments with grace and care.
Faith was at the center of Trudy's life. A devout Christian, she poured herself into church life and ministry. Known for her beautifully hand-lettered transparencies used in worship services and her ever-present willingness to pray with and for others, she served her community with humility, creativity, and love.
Trudy is survived by her two sons, John Hawkins Clements, Jr. (Shelly) and Mack Benson Clements; her beloved granddaughter, Victoria Elizabeth Clements; and a bonus grandson, David. She was preceded in death by her parents, Helenlee Benson Cox and Herbert Mack Cox. She is also lovingly remembered by her dearest friend, Leah Davis, who was like a sister to her in every way that mattered.
A funeral service celebrating Trudy's life will be held on Monday, April 7, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Sebrell Funeral Home in Ridgeland, Mississippi, followed by a graveside service at Lakewood Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in her memory to Samaritan's Purse-a cause close to Trudy's heart.
