Truman Joe Rozelle

“A legend and icon in the music field for 60 years in the Muncie, Indiana area” according to his peers, other musicians, and friends. 

Joe was born April 12th, 1939 to William and Nellie Rozelle in Selma, Indiana. Joe attended Center High School, once-located in Selma, Indiana, and left in 1958 to enlist into the Navy to sail on a Destroyer 848. He sailed to Cuba, San Juan, Puerto Rico, and around the Vietnam region.

Joe spent sixty years in music and traveled all over Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Ohio to entertain. He was the lead singer in multiple bands including Such Narrow Bridge, Shiloh Band, Echo Springs, Thunder, Total Impact and Rage Band. Joe even had the chance to sing with Vince Gill at the Opryland Hotel. Joe had the opportunity to meet Jimmy Dean and Charlie Pride while playing in the Minnie Pearl Golf Tournament. Joe, a sports enthusiast, was an avid golfer and had a strong passion for the Indiana University Hoosiers.

Joe spent forty years working full-time in the bakery business including holding the position of Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Klosterman Baking Company. Joe was a fierce competitor, especially when it came to working in the bakery business. In his own words, he “was a firm straight-shooter who would fire from the hip at any minute.” 

Joe was respected by the business community as well as the people associated with him. While Joe was always organized with a plan of action, he was also not afraid to step outside of the box for ideas to complete his plan of action. As he said, “Always take it to the limit.”

Joe is preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Carlos Rozelle, his sister, Georgia Amburn, and his son, Kevin Rozelle. Joe leaves behind three sons Ken (Judy) Rozelle of Coatesville, Indiana, Robert Stigall of Muncie, Indiana, Ronnie Rozelle of Muncie, Indiana; two daughters, Chacita (Roy) Wingfield of Bowling Green, Kentucky and Kathy Clapper; several grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
