Tyrell Allen Berriman, of Benton Harbor, Michigan, died April 22, 2025 at home. Born January 12, 1990 to Sarah Ohm Berriman, currently of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Gary Berriman currently of Mexico, Missouri, Tyrell spent most of his life in Michigan. For several years, he's been employed flipping houses in Michigan and St. Louis, Missouri.
Tyrell early on developed a passion for the outdoors and hockey. While his favorite pastime was fishing, his lifelong love was hockey, as a player and a coach. It is worth memorializing what the LJS Warriors posted on Facebook about him, that he was "known and loved by all his players as Coach Ty. Coach Ty's passion for hockey began at a young age and carried through into his coaching, where he inspired and encouraged young athletes. He started as an Assistant Coach in the Freeze program, later became Head Coach for the Freeze Bantams, and most recently served as an Assistant Coach for the LSJ JV team. Coach Ty's dedication, kindness, and love for the game left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him."
Ty loved his family, including his Benton Harbor family. He often smiled, whether in kindness, fun, or in preparation to make a smart-alecky remark. You knew it was coming by the tilt of his chin. If he loved you, you experienced all of his smiles. What else did he enjoy in life? Looking out for the underdog, and watching British biologist David Attenborough celebrate the natural world.
Tyrell is survived by both parents, his sister Callie Smith of Battle Creek and brother AJ Berriman of Warren. A private service is being held for family on Monday, April 28th at Michigan Cremation and Funeral Care.
