In Loving Memory

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Ulysses Sandy Smith, who departed this life on December 29, 2025, in Cleveland, Ohio. Sandy was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, service member and community member, whose kindness, warmth, and unwavering support touched all who knew him.

Early Life and Education

Born in Cincinnati, Ohio to Ulysses Smith, Sr. and Ella Smith on August 31st, 1940, Sandy was the youngest of 4 children (Elbert, Ralph, and Rosalie). He grew up surrounded by love and was instilled with values that would guide him throughout life. He enlisted in the Marine Corps at the age of 19 and served 28 years where he excelled to the rank of Chief Warrant Officer 3 (CWO3).

A Life Well-Lived

Ulysses Sandy Smith and Ruthie M. Womack were united in holy matrimony on September 22, 1979. This union was blessed with 5 children: Chris Sandy Smith, Elbert Windoll Smith, Deborah Maria Oliver, Christopher Ethan Smith, and Ulysses Sandy Smith, III.

A man of few words, Sandy was a great cook who freely shared of his personal resources. He was a great swimmer and is credited with teaching many family members how to swim. He dedicated his life to serving others, emotionally, physically, and with his talents. He was known for his quiet demeanor. His presence brought calm, joy, and comfort to family, friends, and colleagues.

In the military, Sandy formed lifelong friendships and was known as a "jack of all trades". Aside from his military assignments, he also worked on tanks, backhoes, jeeps and other equipment. During his tours of duty, he saved the lives of two close friends.
