Una Taylor Obituary
Una Mae was the second born to Willis Shaw and Ethel Lee Shaw, on October 18, 1934 in Brownsville, TN. As one of twelve children, Una Mae left the family home a a young woman after marrying James Thomas Taylor on April 4, 1953. They began their life in Decatur, IL and six children were born to this union.
Una Mae became well known in the Decatur community as she held employment and volunteer positions that allowed her to interact, serve, give and love on her community. From her days as a cashier at Cloyds Grocery store for 25 years to her tenure at Decatur Housing Authority as a dwelling inspector for 26 years, Una Mae impacted many lives. Her commitment to the power of voting, especially in the black community, has been recognized and rewarded.
Una Mae was a devout and active member of Trinity C.M.E. Church for many decades. She served in the Sanctuary Choir as well as being a voice in many other areas of the church.
Una Mae leaves to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy, daughters, Florence Etta, Margaret Ann, and Loretta Michelle; sons James Thomas and Montelle Duane; grandchildren, Demekco Flagg, Dawn (Andre) Tyus, Chez Jones, Desmond Taylor, Toi Wise, and Tundre 'Mario' Harper; sisters, Ruby (Willie) Cawthon, Eunice (Rev. Dr. Lonnie) Peek, Mae Lois Brown, Denelda Shaw, Althnett Turner; sister in law, Mildred Shaw; brothers, Preston (Mary) Shaw Sr. and James (Teresia) Shaw; a host of great grandchildren and great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends.
Una Mae was preceeded in death by her son, Larry Edward Taylor, her parents, sisters Myra Etta and Willene, brothers Thomas and Willis.
The family of Una Mae would like to give our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Cancer Center of Decatur and Memorial Home Hospice for their loving care of our sweet loved one.
