Urban B. Schaefer, 90, of Evansville, passed away Monday, January 5, 2026 at Linda E. White Hospice. He was born July 25, 1935 in Evansville to the late Barbara (Elpers) and Leo Schaefer.
Urban was a veteran of the United States Army. He worked for Alcoa for many years before retiring in 2000. Urban was a member of Union Local 104, Knights of Columbus #306 and Germania Maennerchor. He was a long-time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in the city, where he was very active in the Men's Club. Urban was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather and will be dearly missed.
He is survived by his daughters, Julie Patten (Scott) and Jennifer Garner (Brian); son, Jerry Schaefer; grandchildren, Candice Dozier, Zachary Patten, Stephanie Van Winkle, Brandon Hartz and Abbie Garner; and great-grandchildren, Kaylie, Mackenzie, Adley, Lainey, Reagan, Calvin, Elliott and Everly.
In addition to his parents, Urban was preceded in death by his wife, Dean Elliott Schaefer; and sister, Bernice Fenwick.
Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026 at Ziemer Funeral Home East Chapel, 800 S. Hebron Ave., Evansville. Visitation will continue from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 9, 2026 at All Saints Parish-St. Joseph Catholic Church, 600 E. Virginia St., Evansville. A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the church with Father Ted Tempel officiating.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery with Retired Veterans Memorial Club providing military honors.
Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association, Southern IN Chapter, 101 Bullitt Lane, Suite 208, Louisville, KY 40222.
