Velma "Val" J. (Dickinson) King, 52, died Sunday, August 30 after a long courageous battle with cancer, surrounded by the love and support of her family. Born in Island Falls, ME, July 1, 1957, she was the daughter of John Dickinson of Patten, ME and the late Mary (Baker) Dickinson. She lived in Gilbertville for many years before moving to the Palmer area 15 years ago. She worked for a time as a caregiver at Belchertown State School, and will be remembered as a caring and loving wife and mother. She was very involved with the Baystate Mary Lane Oncology Program and participated for many years in their Walk of Champions. As recently as this past summer, she walked a mile for the cause. She will be deeply missed by her husband of 30 years, David M. King, along with her 2 daughters, Amy King and Jennifer King. She also leaves her precious grandson, Tyler King, along with a brother Joseph of Milford, ME, and a sister Marie Griffith of Goldsboro, NC. A time to pay respects to the family will be Thursday, September 3 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at the Beers & Story Palmer Funeral Home, 1475 N. Main St., (Rte. 20) followed by a Celebration of Life Service at 4:00 p.m. Burial is at the convenience of the family. For those wishing, donations may be made in her memory to Bay State Mary Lane Oncology Dept, 85 South St., Ware, 01082.
