Valentin M. Herrera (79), of
Kingsville, Texas, passed away at his home on November 19, 2023.
Valentin, known as Vale by his friends and family, was born to Jose and Marta Herrera, on February 14, 1944, in
Odem, Texas. He attended Sinton High School, played Pirate football, and graduated in 1963. He remained a Sinton Pirate fan until the end. He was retired at the time of his passing. However, he worked with H&K Pipeline and in the pipeline industry for most of his life. He enjoyed visiting with his lifetime friends, spending time with his family and especially enjoyed the time he shared with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Vale is survived by his wife, Irma Herrera (Kingsville), and his ex-wife, Mary Lou Herrera (David Rivera-St. Paul), and his seven children, Carmel Herrera (Paulo Ortiz) of Corpus Christi, Roberto Herrera (Elvia) of St. Paul, Monica Garcia (David Garcia-deceased) of St. Paul, Michelle Garcia (Julio) of Kingsville, Adrianne Whitaker (Chad) of North Carolina, Clarissa Dunnahoo (Tony) of Corpus Christi, and Valentin Herrera, Jr. (Angel Mireles) of Kingsville. He is also survived by his sister, Julia Herrera, of Sinton along with twenty two grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren from Sinton, Corpus Christi, Kingsville, and North Carolina.
Vale's greatest love was his mother and his family. He genuinely enjoyed visiting with his children and grandchildren in Kingsville, visiting his sister, and visiting his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren in Sinton and St. Paul. He had the opportunity to work alongside his eldest son for several years, to attend the College World Series in
Omaha, Nebraska with his eldest daughter and watch the Longhorns win it, and to attend the Dallas Cowboys training camp with his youngest daughter. He attended football games, softball games, basketball games, and baseball games to watch his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports or play on the drumline. Some of his biggest smiles and laughter could be witnessed and heard while sharing the holidays, birthday parties and celebrating life with his family. Aside from loving his family, Vale was a devout Catholic and Dallas Cowboys and Yankee fan. He was his family's prayer warrior always keeping each one of them in his prayers. On Sundays, you could find him attending mass services at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Kingsville and then at home watching his Cowboys. And, during baseball season you could hear the banter between him and his sister because he was a Yankees fan, and she was rooting for the Rangers. He lived a full life on his terms. And, up until the very end his favorite pastime was picking up his grandchildren from school each day. The beautiful memories and stories he made and left for his family shall forever be cherished and treasured.
Valentin is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Marta Herrera, his sister, Marcela Martinez, his grandparents, Victoriano and Martina Melendrez, his grandson, Jaime Amado Perez, and his son in law, David Garcia.
