Valerie Louise (Woodside) Hazelton, age 72, of Dekalb, NY, passed away at the Hospice Home of Jefferson County in Watertown, NY, on Thursday, July 10, 2025. Per her request, there will be no formal visitation or funeral services. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Frary Funeral Home, Ogdensburg.
Valerie is survived by her beloved husband, Gary Hazelton, of Dekalb, NY; her step-children, Tanya Hazelton of Heuvelton, NY, Gary Hazelton of Pennsylvania, Terry Hazelton of Virginia, McKenzie Sandoval of Gouverneur, NY, Jordan Hazelton of Antwerp, NY, and Lane Hazelton of Watertown, NY; her siblings, Bob and Jennifer Woodside of Andrews, Texas and Daniel and Diane (Woodside) DiYanni of Granville, Ohio; and several nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She is predeceased by her parents, Robert and Leta Woodside; and her sister, Pam Ives.
Valerie was born on February 1, 1953, in Ogdensburg, NY, the daughter of the late Robert and Leta Emma (Bailey) Woodside. She graduated from Heuvelton Central School and Northwest BOCES tech in 1972. Valerie was a Case Worker at St. Lawrence County Social Services in Canton, NY, for the majority of her working career. In 2008, she married Gary Hazelton at their home.
Valerie enjoyed camping, riding motorcycles-especially Harleys-and collecting Harley-Davidson memorabilia. She had a deep love for country music and cherished spending time with her family. Over time, she also developed a special fondness for the nearby Amish community.
Donations may be made in Valerie's memory to Hospice of Jefferson County; 1398 Gotham St, Watertown, NY 13601.
