Obituary published on Legacy.com by Carrier Family Funeral Home & Crematory - Windham on Dec. 18, 2025.
Valerie "Val" Martin, 59, of Windham, NH passed away on Tuesday evening, December 16, 2025, at her home, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on November 16, 1966, to Ann (Fitzmeyer) and William Brissenden. Val was raised in Reading, Massachusetts and attended local schools.

Val married the love of her life, James "Jamie" Martin on August 26, 2000 and the couple raised their family in Windham. Once her children were grown, Val continued her education, earning both her bachelor's and master's degrees in psychology. She began her career with the State of New Hampshire as a social worker and later specialized in Adult Protective Services. Val obtained numerous awards and commendations throughout her 13-year career.

She was not only a devoted wife and mother, but Val was the most amazing "mema". Her grandchildren were the light of her life.

Val will be remembered as a beautiful, spontaneous, independent, and incredible person. Once she got an idea in her mind, she felt the need to act, starting many home projects throughout the years. Val loved time spent with her family and would often plan trips to Disney World, 34 trips to Disney to be exact!

She is survived by her husband of 25 years, Jamie Martin; her daughters, Melissa Gaw, Darion Summers and her significant other Faycal Benfeddoul, and Taylor Martin Stockwell and her husband Jeffrey; her grandchildren, Milly, Amir, Nadia, Zayn, Abel, and Colton; her siblings, Michele Brissenden Devir and her husband Steve, James Brissenden and his wife Debbie, and Kathleen Sullivan; as well as many nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

In addition to her parents, Val was predeceased by her brother, David Brissenden.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, December 27th, from 10am to 12:30pm, with a Funeral Service immediately following at 12:30pm, at the Carrier Family Funeral Home, 38 Range Road, Windham, NH 03087.
