Valorie Schretter

Valorie Jeanne Schretter passed away on January 8, 2025. Valorie was blessed with 89 years of life.
Valorie was born in St Louis, Missouri to Valorie Morgan and William Doran in 1935. In her early years, Valorie lived in Garden City, Long Island and Summit, New Jersey. Valorie was the oldest of three girls and loved her sisters, Catherine (Kitty) and Patrice (Tricy) very much.
Valorie attended Oak Knoll School in Summit, NJ for high school and St. Elizabeth University in Morristown, NJ for college. Valorie went on to earn a Ph.D. in Education from Kean College. She married Francis J (Jerry) Schretter in 1963 and had one child, a son, Jerry.
Valorie and her husband made their home in Berkeley Heights, NJ while spending summers in North Sea Beach Colony, Southampton, Long Island.
Valorie began her summers in the early 1950s in North Sea, where she and her family formed lifelong memories and relationships by the bay surrounded by a wildlife refuge and sand dunes. These were some of the best times for Valorie raising a family there and ultimately coming back year after year to North Sea and Southampton.
Valorie spent her professional career in education as a Middle and Elementary School Teacher at Columbia Middle School in Berkeley Heights, NJ and at St Brigid in Peapack, NJ. Valorie loved working with children and she loved the Church. After the death of her husband in 1985, Valorie moved to Bedminster, NJ and in addition to teaching, joined the choirs at St Brigid's Church in Peapack, NJ and St James Church in Basking Ridge, NJ.
Valorie was known for her smart attire and matching outfits, her physical strength in overcoming many challenges in her life and her strong faith in God and the Catholic Church. Valorie had a strong sense of family and was always the first to help those in need.
Valorie is survived by her son, Jerry, his wife Sue, and their four children: Kristen, Michael, Jennifer and Julia. The grandchildren will miss their "Gammy."

A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, One Passaic Street, Ridgewood, NJ on Saturday, January 11, 2025 at 9:30 AM.
