Vance Peter "Pete" Bracken

1945 - 2026

CURWENSVILLE - Vance Peter "Pete" Bracken, affectionately known as "Grumpy", 80, of Curwensville, passed away on Jan. 1, 2026, at Penn Highlands Clearfield.

He was born Aug. 18, 1945 in Mahaffey at his grandparents, the son of the late Clarence and Marjorie (Dickey) Bracken.

Pete graduated from Curwensville High School in 1963. He worked as a builder and owned Bracken Builders with his brother, Larry. He also worked for Thomas Hamilton Church Builders.

He was an avid reader and especially enjoyed Western stories. Pete also enjoyed playing cards, playing games on his phone, watching Fox News, being outside, and mostly being surrounded by his family.

He is survived by his wife Carol (Meckley) Bracken, whom he wed July 5, 1997; five children, Stephanie (Kevin) Fraeyman, Jeannette (Craig) Bartlett, Georgia (Jeff) Swatsworth, Jennifer (Terry) Bloom, and David Bracken; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; one great-great granddaughter; a sister, Janice Williams; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; step children, Clair (Brandi) Lamoreau, Shawn (Joyce) Lamoreau, Cissy (Robert Jr.) Reese; and numerous step grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Kathleen (McNaul) Bracken on Aug. 3, 1990, whom he wed Aug. 13, 1964 in Marlboro, Md. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Larry Bracken; and a grandson, Jameson Swatsworth.

Honoring Mr. Bracken's wishes, there will be no public services.

Interment will be in the Historic Crown Crest Cemetery at a later date.
