JONESBORO - Vance Leroy Kibbons, 71, of Jonesboro, passed from this life Friday, June 7, 2024, at NEA Baptist Memorial Hospital in Jonesboro. Vance was born in Jonesboro and lived most of his life here.
He was a 1970 graduate of Jonesboro High School and attended Arkansas State University. Vance worked much of his adult life in retail security. He worked several years as a security officer at Indian Mall and was the first officer hired to open the Mall at Turtle Creek. Vance continued working at the mall until his retirement.
Vance was a member of First Baptist Church of Jonesboro where he was a member of the Dennis Hill Sunday school class and the church choir. He enjoyed singing gospel music and had been active with the Tonemasters and Joyful Sound as well as the music director at University Baptist Church in Jonesboro.
Vance was a past member of the Jonesboro Masonic Lodge and enjoyed attending Arkansas State University Red Wolves sporting events and watching football on television.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence Walton and Willie Mae Ledford Kibbons, and a sister, Glenda Chester.
Survivors include his wife, Janet Fox Kibbons of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, Blake and Elizabeth Kibbons of Jonesboro; a stepson, Michael Scott of Jonesboro; two grandchildren, Blakely and Ozzie Kibbons; a sister, Wanda Mayhall of Barnhart, Mo.; a niece and her husband, Tanya and Scott Gent of Barnhart and a great-nephew, Bobby Gent of Barnhart.
Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. today, June 11, at First Baptist Church in Jonesboro with Dr. Rodney Reeves officiating. Burial will follow in Oaklawn Cemetery in Jonesboro. Visitation will be held from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m., preceding the funeral service.
Active pallbearers will include Dennis Hill, Jim Whaley, Curtis Miller, Colt Landreth, Warren Tiner and Stan Woolridge.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that consideration be given to the American Red Cross, First Baptist Church of Jonesboro, or the charity of the donor's choice.
