Vance Ottati Obituary

Ottati, Vance M.
SCHENECTADY - It is with deep sadness and regret that our family must inform you that our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend, Vance Michael Ottati, 19, peacefully entered into eternal life surrounded by his loving parents on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady.
Born in Albany, N.Y., Vance was the son of Andrew R. and Maureen Coyne Ottati. Vance was educated at Paige Elementary School in Schenectady, where he was referred to by his Principal as "The Mayor." He continued his education in the sixth grade at LaSalle Institute in Troy, from where he graduated in 2023. Vance spent the past year of his time helping his parents prepare for the opening of their new family business Slick's 1812 Tavern in Schenectady.
Vance loved being with family and friends, making memories and everyone laugh. From Cape Cod, Chicago, Annapolis, Lake Placid, Disney and Turks and Caicos or just running the streets of Watervliet as he would say with his friends and all over the Capital District. He also took great joy in fishing in Central Park across the street from his home in Schenectady and spending time with his grandparents who remain, because he didn't want them to feel alone. Helping friends and family whenever he could, no matter the task. He had great joy visiting his cousins in Annapolis, Md., going to Navy Football games every year and being near the water. He cherished his friends and the time they spent at LaSalle playing sports or just being boys growing up. Vance will be remembered for his comedic timing, big heart, and generosity. He wasn't perfect but he was ours for 19 loving years, and that made him perfect to us.
Beloved son of Maureen and Andrew, dearest brother of Colden T. Ottati and Mallari L. Ottati, cherished grandson of Carole F. (Hammond) and the late Thomas J. Coyne Jr. and of Michael A. and the late Nancy (Welter) Ottati, loving nephew of Thomas J. (Jody) Coyne III and Christopher M. (David Rivera) Ottati, adored cousin of Katelyn, Meghan and Riley Coyne, also survived by several aunts, uncles, cousins and numerous friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours on Friday, March 7, 2025, from 4 to 7 p.m., at the John J. Sanvidge Funeral Home, Inc, 565 Fourth Ave. (at the Corner of 115th St., in Lansingburgh) Troy, N.Y. 12182, and to his Mass of Christian Burial, on Saturday morning, at 9:30 a.m., St. Augustine's Church, 25-115th St., Troy, N.Y. 12182.
Following the Mass, interment will be held in Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery, Niskayuna.
Those desiring, may make memorial contributions to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation, 2361 Hylan Blvd., Staten Island, N.Y. 10306 or online at t2t.org in memory of Vance M. Ottati.

I am so incredibly sorry for the entire Ottati family. I pray you find love and peace as you search for meaning. I respected Vance deeply. He was a calm and truly caring person. In my classroom, in the hallways, and on the field, he always had a smile for me. I hear his deep voice that seemed to come out of the corner of his mouth, like a wiseguy from a Phillip Marlowe movie.

A great kid and a tragic loss for the world.
