Vance Douglas Payne, age 81, of Fairview, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Saint Vincent Heath Center.

He was born in Erie on May 11, 1943, a son of the late Vance P. and Shirley Root Payne. He served as a mechanic in the United States Navy from 1963 to 1969. After his service, he worked for Bessemer, Lake Erie Railroad and Perry Shipbuilding before retiring from Pleasant Ridge Manor after 21 years.

He was a member of God’s family and The Federated Church in East Springfield. He loved serving the Lord through the church and participated in many ministries including the “Thursday work crew” and the food pantry. Doug was a licensed pilot and served many years as an active member of the Albion Fire Department. He enjoyed woodworking and repairing most anything. He especially enjoyed the Thursday workdays at the Federated Church. His greatest joy though was spending time with his daughter, Wendy. He was the absolute best dad a girl could have and was a true blessing from God.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Sharlene L. Myers and Judith A. Kinney; his brother Larry Payne; a brother-in-law Bob Kinney; a niece and four nephews.

He is survived by his loving daughter, Wendy Payne of Erie, and several nieces, nephews, grand nieces and nephews, and great grand nieces and nephews.

Friends may call at the Burton Funeral Home 525 Main Street, East Girard on Friday from 11am until the time of service at 1pm. with Rev Ed Huntley officiating. Burial to follow in the Fairview Cemetery with full Military Honors.

Memorials may be made to The Federated Church, 11995 Main St., East Springfield, PA 16411.
