Vance Kanter Schmidt

Vance Kanter Schmidt, 15, of Belton, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, June 2, 2025.
Vance was a rising Junior at Belton Honea Path High School where he was a member of the wrestling team. During his wrestling career he achieved an impressive record of 35-20 with 24 pins and 4 technical falls. In 2024 he was the Anderson County Champion (138) and in 2025 he was the AAA Region 1-All Region Champion (132), as well as the AAA All State Champion (132), AAA Upper-State Runner Up (132) and AAA State Runner Up (132). He also most recently competed in the 2025 High School Nationals held in Virginia Beach, Virgina.
Vance was a treasured member of Whitefield Baptist Church, and he loved Jesus with all his heart. He was regularly involved in Whitefield's Youth Ministry, attending the High School Sunday School Class and Whitefield's Wednesday night youth gathering at "The Outlet". He went on many youth trips and retreats, including a mission trip to New Orleans and looked forward to an upcoming mission trip to Virginia. He served the Children's Ministry, helping with both Vacation Bible School, as well as Children's Church. The children of the church were always excited when Vance was their leader because he was fun to hang out with. Vance was a faithful servant, and his church family will miss him dearly.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his loving parents, William "Will" and Erica Schmidt, as well as four brothers; Maddux, Gavin, Zayne and his twin brother, Kason; special friend and love of his life, Alissa Grace McCullough and the McCullough family; his grandparents William "Bill" and Janice Sheavly; Glenn and Deb Gifford; and Uncles Clint Gifford and his wife Carrie, as well as Kyle Klasek.
The family will receive friends at Whitefield Baptist Church, 207 Mitchell Road, Belton, on Friday June 6, 2025, from 5-7 PM. A Celebration of Life will also be held at Whitefield on Saturday June 7, 2025, at 11 AM, officiated by Pastor Joey Farrington, and burial will follow in the church cemetery at a later date.
