Retired CW3 Vietnam Combat Veteran, Retired Deputy Director of the US Army JROTC, Former Senator of Itumalo Ma opütasi and High Chief Ali'i o le Faleono Vasaga Tilo Sr. of Aua, American Samoa passed away on Sunday, December 3, 2023 in Salt Lake City, Utah surrounded by his loved ones. He was 80 years old. Born on July 6, 1943 to Masele Fepulea'i and Kalepo Tilo of Aua, American Samoa and raised by Mulimuli Aumoeualogo of Aoa, American Samoa and Eliga Tilo of Aua, American Samoa.
Chief Tilo is survived by his beloved wife Christine (Tialavea Morris) Tilo and children.
Vasaga Jr. (Kellyann) Tilo; Christine Tilo (Felix Passi), Mulimuli (Pearl) Kamana-Tilo, and Utaifeau (Sili) Tilo, He is also survived by his sisters Tuaoloa, Lea, Lufilufi, Faasilitama'ita'i, Tiliilagi, and brothers Pagaloa, Nu'uausala, Taafulusia, and Harry.
Chief Tilo has 12 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. He is also survived and cherished by many nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
He was a US Army Retired Samoan leader, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, and friend: represented both the United States & his beloved Samoan people in more ways than one. He was gentle yet ruthless in his love for all. He will forever be revered and loved. He is truly in a class of his own. We don't believe anyone will ever fill our hearts with his distinguished and humble love--He did not deserve any of position, the position deserved him. la vi'ia le Atua -Fa'afetai lava "
Services will be held on Friday, December 22, 2023 at the LDS Chapel: 1495
Tamarack Rd, Salt Lake City, Utah. A viewing will begin at 2:00pm with a funeral to follow are 3:00pm. Chief Tilo will be taken back to his beloved home in Aua, American Samoa where his final services and resting place will commence in early January.
