Vaughn Henry Reekers of Renwick, passed away suddenly on June 2, 2024, at the age of 72.
To know Vaughn was to love him. He was born in Sheldon, Iowa and grew up in the Humboldt area but his sense of adventure took him many places before bringing him back to Renwick. A few of the highlights include driving his semi all the way up to Prudhoe Bay, Alaska in the early 80’s (the original ice road trucker), taking a yacht through the Panama Canal, and we can’t forget all his sky diving adventures in Montana. He never could sit still, being a truck driver most of his life, even in retirement he still enjoyed helping in the fields during the spring & fall. Vaughn loved riding his Harley, a cold drink with friends, and telling stories but most of all he loved his family. He cherished spending time with his family playing cards, shooting pool, fishing … or anything else they came up with. His laugh, contagious energy & love for life will be deeply missed.
Vaughn was very proud of his two children Matt (Josie) Reekers & Amy (Adam) Ruppel and five grandchildren; Allie Ruppel, Maggie Reekers, Grace Ruppel, Olivia Jo Reekers, & John Ruppel. He is survived by his mother Joyce Johnson of Sun City, Arizona; sisters Patricia (Kerry) Spaur of Newton, Iowa; Barbara (Ben) Lewis of Sun City, Arizona; Roxanne (Mick) Umbenhauer of Payson, Arizona and brother Todd Reekers of Fort Dodge. He was proceeded in death by his father Henry Reekers.
Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 13, 2024 at the Mason-Lindhart Funeral & Cremation Service in Humboldt. Visitation will be after 1:00 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. A time of sharing among friends will follow at the Blue Moose in Renwick. In lieu of flowers please send donations to St. Jude’s’s Hospital. Vaughn was a long-time donor to this foundation and felt very strongly about helping the children and their families. https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html?sc_icid=impactgiving-bttn-memory&dedication=1&frequency_selected=0
