Vaul Byrd, age 81, of Gatesville, passed away on Friday, October 20, 2023.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at Scott’s Funeral Home, with Pastor Sam Crosby officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Cemetery. Vaul’s family will receive visitors from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday at the funeral home.
Valeria Vaul Byrd was born on November 21, 1941, to the late John Dock and Letha Ray Cobb Rogers in O'Donnell, Texas. She grew up in O’Donnell, moving to Gatesville later in her teenage years. On March 9, 1959, she married Robert Carl “R.C.” Byrd, and the two made their home in Gatesville. She worked in the family business, specializing in both painting and hanging wallpaper. She also worked as a “Construction Boss” for the Texas Department of Corrections and later in life worked as a receptionist for TTG Electric. Vaul enjoyed reading and spending time outside with her husband. She loved feeding and watching all of the wildlife around their home. She was an active member at Trinity Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, J.D. Rogers, Lucky Rogers, and Elmer Rogers; and sisters, Irene Rogers, and Flo Rogers.
Vaul is survived by her husband of 64 years, R.C.; sister, Ruth Waldemarsen and husband, Don; daughters, Diana Hydrick and husband, Mike; Debra Isaacks and husband, Paul; sons, Carl Byrd and wife, Penny; Johnny Byrd and wife, Michelle; grandchildren, Justin Branham, Sarah Hukel, Tasha LeBlanc, Sean Hydrick, Brent Isaacks, Brandon Isaacks, Teristin Byrd, Amanda Simpson, Brandy Featherston, Brittany Underwood, Courtney Bernard, and Delaney Byrd; numerous great-grandchildren; and her “baby,” Nala.
In lieu of flowers, Vaul's family requests that memorials be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 1506 W. Main Street, Gatesville, TX 76528.
