Vaunda Seeley Thomas, age 88, passed away peacefully on February 14, 2026. Vaunda was born in her childhood home in
Salem, Utah, on May 29, 1937, to Vaud and Norma Jorgensen. She adored her siblings-Lee (Barbara), Del (Carol), and Debra (Steve Johnson)-and remained fiercely loyal to them throughout her life.
Vaunda attended schools in Salem and Spanish Fork. She loved the rodeo, and at just 15 years old, snuck her way into the competition and was crowned rodeo queen-before she was old enough to compete. In 1955, she married William Bert Seeley, and together they raised four children: Sonia, Jeanette, Chris, and Joan. Their family life was filled with time outdoors-hunting, camping, snowmobiling, and boating. Bear Lake and Lake Powell held some of her happiest memories with family and friends. Vaunda was as at home on horseback in the mountains as she was behind her sewing machine, sewing beautiful dresses and clothes for her daughters. She also enjoyed her work in accounting, spending years at Harward Irrigation, Crane Plumbing Supply, and Osmond Studios.
After Bert's passing in 1979, Vaunda married Rulon A. Thomas in 1992, embracing his children, Lisa Hicken and Joel Thomas, as part of her own. The couple later moved to St. George, Utah, where she continued to soak up the sunshine and enjoy the outdoors. Their home became a gathering place for family and friends who loved spending their vacations with her.
Vaunda was a glass-half-full lady. With a twinkle in her eye and a ready smile, she brought energy and warmth wherever she went. Feisty, fun, and full of life-much like her daughters-she brightened every room she entered. She loved a good celebration and treasured any chance to gather with family and friends. Traveling to Mexico each year was a particular joy. An active member of the Elk's Lodge, she organized and supported many charitable events as a devoted Lady of Elks.
The final months of Vaunda's life were a blessing. She and her daughter, Joan, shared treasured time together, reflecting a bond filled with friendship, devotion, and trust. The family extends heartfelt thanks to Utah Home and Hospice for their exceptional care and to the many caregivers, friends, and relatives who visited and surrounded her with love.
Vaunda will be deeply missed by her family, including 11 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. We take comfort in imagining the joyful reunion she is having with those who passed before her-her parents, Vaud and Norma Jorgensen; her brother, Lee Jorgensen; her husbands, William Bert Seeley and Rulon Thomas; her children, Jeanette Belshaw and Chris Seeley; and her son-in-law, Steve Mower.
At Vaunda's request, a celebration of life will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2026, from 12:00–2:00 p.m. at Nelson Family Mortuary, 4780 N. University Avenue,
Provo, Utah. In lieu of flowers, please honor her memory by spending time with the people you love-preferably under a bright sky in the great outdoors.
