Four Oaks, NC: Mrs. Velda Jay Beasley Callam, age 69, of 1916B Strickland's Crossroads Road passed away on Tuesday, October 10, 2023 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Graveside Services will be 11:00 AM Friday, October 13, 2023 at Hills of the Neuse Memory Gardens in Smithfield. Revs. Marshall Stewart and Eddisson Etienne will officiate.
Mrs. Callam was born on April 11, 1954 in Johnston County to the late Jady and Ellen Lawhon Beasley. She was a CNA II for over 32 years with UNC Johnston Health in Smithfield. After retirement she was involved with her husband with civic organizations dedicated to helping her community. Mrs. Callam dedicated her entire adult life to helping others and always put others first. She never had any children of her own but she loved her pets as her children especially, Charlie and Remmington.
Surviving is her husband of 34 years, Michael Callam of Four Oaks; sisters, Jennifer Jan Beasley and Ginger Kim Carroll both of Four Oaks; sister-in-law, Sherry Callam Smith and husband, Ricky of Clayton; beloved niece, Kayla Callam of Denver, Colorado, who she thought of as her own; niece, Jessica Smith of Clayton; nephew, Frankie Smith and Family of Clayton; brother-in-law, Randall Callam and wife, Kass of Yorktown, VA; niece, Leslie Callam Turner and Family of Newport News, VA; nephew, Brian Callam and Family of Mayo, Maryland; uncle, Thel Lawhon of Four Oaks; very dear friend, Jimmy Lee Peacock of Four Oaks.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday, October 12, 2023 at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Four Oaks, and other times at the home.
Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Johnston Amateur Radio Society, which she was a lifetime member, P.O. Box 302, Benson, NC 27504.
