Velma Jean Adkins, a beacon of love and creativity, passed away peacefully on September 24, 2025, at the age of 91 in Marlow, Oklahoma. Born on November 11, 1933, in White Flat, Texas, to Henry Custer and Ivus Ritta (White) Sharp, Velma's life was marked by her unwavering kindness and her passion for the arts.

Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 2, 2025, at the Callaway-Smith-Cobb Funeral Home in Marlow between the hours of 12:00 PM to 7:00 PM.

Velma's journey led her to the University of Science and Arts where she earned her Associates degree in teaching. She never let her talents go to waste and was open to the variety life provided her. Velma's professional life included teaching a kindergarten class in her home for five years, owning and operating a family Dairy Queen between 1967 and 1980, and a 28-year career as a bank teller.

As a devout Christian, Velma was an active member of the Glory Bound Church, where she cultivated a community of faith that supported her throughout her life, and guided her actions and her unwavering dedication to her family.

Velma's legacy is carried on by her loving sons, Charles Dean Adkins of Marlow and Dale White, with his wife Lisa of Yukon; daughters Alma Leigh Storey and her husband David of Marlow, Sharon Kay Adkins and Wade Walker of Marlow; and her cherished grandchildren Cory Bowman and wife Melissa, Jenilee Copeland and husband Jimmy, Cara Jo Lovett and husband Brett, Lindsey Elroy and husband Matt, Gary White, Sara Tyree, and Greg White. Her joy was multiplied by the laughter of her great-grandchildren Brayden, Casen, Easton, Raelyn, Paisley, Adelyn, Breckyn, Paden, Maverick, Millie, Kellyn, Gary, Wynter, and Ezra.

Also mourning her loss are her nephew Russel Sharp and wife Wynama; nieces Della Yoder, Denise Chaney, Diane Woodall and husband Ray, and Mona Henderson and husband Brett. Velma was preceded in death by her beloved husband Walter Charles Adkins, her brother Delton Sharp, and her parents.

Velma's life was marked by her love for crocheting, painting, and home decor, but above all, spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Her presence was a gift to all who knew her, and she will be remembered as a loving, kind, and creative soul whose light shone brightly in the lives of her family and friends.
