Velma Gray Willard Parnell of Winston-Salem, NC, passed away on Wednesday, October 15, 2025. She was born November 19, 1924 in Forsyth County, and lived 100 years, 10 months, and 26 days. She was the daughter of the late Howard Zeno and Myrtle Mae Willard. Velma Gray was a member of Friedland Moravian Church and was retired from Davis Department Store. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Gilbert Clyde "G.C." Parnell Jr., and sister, Pattie Sue Willard Thomason. She is survived by two nieces, Melody Kim Thomason and Marcia Thomason Mullis, and great-nephew Dewey Mullis, all of Winston-Salem, NC. The family would like to extend their deepest appreciation to the staff and friends at Pennybyrn Hayworth House in High Point for their loving, compassionate care of Velma Gray during her eight years of residency. A celebration of life will take place at Friedland Moravian Church at 11:00 am, Wednesday, October 22, 2025. The family will receive friends in the sanctuary following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Friedland Moravian Church, 2750 Friedland Church Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107. Condolences may be made online at www.salemfh.com.
