Venice Brown Obituary

Published by Legacy on Jan. 25, 2023.
Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear for I am with you; do not be dismayed for I am your
God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will uphold you with my right hand.
Venice Lin "Big Vee" (Lackings) Brown born July 16, 1959, to Lillie Brown and John H. Johnston transitioned to glory on January 14, 2023. She was baptized at Second Baptist 6th District Church. She attended churches wherever her feet landed because she loved the Lord. She was educated in the New Orleans Public School System where she attended Joseph S. Clark high school. Alpine Cleaners was her place of employment for 20 plus years as a counter attendant and presser. She worked several jobs in the food industry. Venice was preceded in death by her parents, John and Lillie Johnston, her grandparents, and a godchild Venice Goodman. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children Byron Lackings Jr., Vashina Diggs (Nicholas), Jonah Brown, William Woods, and Christian O'Conner; her siblings Lydia Coco Scales, Iris Johnston Carter (Gregory), John G. Johnston (Tamara); her grandchildren Jonah Jr., Journee, Ke'Yannie, Logan, Lori and Joelle; two aunts Coralee Brown M. Harris (Godmother) and Gladys V. Brown, Big Ben, the granddog and a host of family and friends.
Venice enjoyed life to its fullest. Even at an early age, she did what she wanted to do no matter the consequences (whipping, or punishment). She loved listening to music, singing, dancing, and taking a chance at the casinos. She loved her family and those famous family gatherings. She always had something humorous or smart to say. You tell her she doesn't need to have all that bread, she would say, "I love bread, I love butter, I love to eat" "can I have another cup of coffee". She was a lover of food.
Venice had a heart of gold as large as the universe. She was so generous; she would give you the shirt off her back. Despite being a giver, she didn't have a problem asking for what she wanted, "hey you got a cigarette I can borrow". Venice was also a caretaker for many children and adults. She showed motherly love to Lakendra, Lawson and their children, Jamie, Jasmine, Caiden, Nicole, Kierra, Tierra and Jakhi. Big Vee met no strangers. She held conversations with anyone. Her neighbors became her friends. Charlie and his son Josh helped her around the house. Mr. James greeted her every morning with a hot cup of coffee and great conversation.
WE all realized that she had the gift of gab and a very loving heart.
