Venita Faye Cantrell

Venita Faye Cantrell, 79, of Varney, WV, a faithful servant of God, entered the presence of Jesus from her home on March 28, 2026. In her own words a few days before her passing, "I am going on a journey." The journeys now complete and Faye is safe home with Jesus.

She was born November 4, 1946, to the late Mance and Vicie Varney Cantrell in Varney, West Virginia. In addition to her parents, five siblings preceded her in death: Delmon, Watson, Donald, Harold Cantrell and sister, Nannetta Lewis. Faye is survived by sisters: Lottie Cantrell, of Piscataway, New Jersey; Shelby Hatfield of New Orleans, Louisiana; Linda Sims and Regina (Troy) Smith both of Varney, WV and Janet (Dan) Varney of Columbus, Ohio. One brother survives her John Paul Cantrell of Varney, West Virginia.

A 1964 graduate of Matewan High School, Matewan, WV. Faye's professional career was marked by excellence and unmatched skills. Her lengthy employment career included Appalachian Regional Healthcare, South Williamson, KY; Rawl Sales & Processing (Massey Coal Company). of Matewan, WV, Southern West Virginia Community College, Williamson, WV, and Trinity Healthcare of Mingo, Williamson, WV.

Having encountered Jesus and making Him savior in her early twenties, she became a member of Pie Church of God on May 13, 1972. In 1974 Faye answered the call to preach the gospel. She was a licensed minister in the Church of God, Cleveland, TN, and served Pie Church in various capacities including more than a quarter century as administrative pastor/treasurer, more than five decades bible classes of all ages were blessed to call her teacher most recently the adult Sunday School class where she is known for deep and impactful lessons, Choir Director, Evangelist and faithful servant for Kingdom purposes. To all who knew her and worked alongside her it was evident that Faye was totally in love with Jesus and sought to serve Him in all she did. Scripture says, And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men. Colossians 3:23. That was Faye everything to her was unto Him, and she inspired those around her to always reach higher than you planned, dream bigger and do more. Unyielding soldier for the Kingdom of God.

Celebration of life will be held Tuesday, March 31, 2026, from 6-8:30 with service beginning at 7 at Pie Church of God, Pie, WV with Rev. Brian Wellman officiating. Funeral Service will be Wednesday, April 1, 2026, at 11am at Pie Church of God, Pie, WV with Rev. Mitchell Bias officiating. Faye will be laid to rest next to her precious mother in the Varney Family Cemetery at Varney, WV with family and friends serving as pallbearers.
