Vera L. Banks, affectionately known as "Shug", was born on January 15, 1948, in Lula, Mississippi, and passed away on October 31, 2023. Vera was a loving and generous soul who cherished her family above all else. She was a reliable pillar of strength in her family's lives, and her thoughtfulness shone through in every interaction she had.
Vera moved to Chicago, Illinois, where she made her home for 59 years. She was a dedicated homemaker, always ensuring that her home was a haven of love, warmth, and comfort for everyone who entered. She was the beloved wife of James Banks, whom she married on April 25, 1964, and with whom she shared a life with until his passing. Vera is survived by her daughters Jacqueline (Craig) Williams, Carolyn (Darryl) Manns, and her sons James Banks, Jr and Kelly Banks, and a host of beloved grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and siblings. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom Sr. and Mary Lee, her son Ennis Banks, grandsons Kevin Banks and Darryl Manns
Jr., and her siblings Tom Jr, Richmond Lee, Emma Fambro, Wesley Lee, and Patricia Lee.

As Psalm 73:26 says, "My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever." May we take comfort knowing that Vera is now at rest in the eternal embrace of the Lord she loved and served.
