Vera Clack Obituary

Vera Mae Morris Clack passed away on January 23, 2025. She was a loving, kind, patient wife, mother and mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, friend, and teacher who will be deeply missed. Services are private, and are under the direction of Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

Vera is survived by her loving family of three sons and daughters-in-law, three grandchildren, and three great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, brother-in-law, nephews, and nieces. Born into a Texas pioneer ranching family, Vera was passionate about her West Texas heritage of humor, courage, independence, the love of the land, and faithfulness to God.

She was preceded in passing by her husband of 70 years, The Reverend Dr. Jack L. Clack, who almost burst with pride whenever she walked into the room.

She took great joy in her "good-looking" family, recognizing special talents in each one.

After graduating from Howard Payne College in Brownwood, Texas, Vera embraced the life of a Southern Baptist preacher's wife and stood out as a respected and admired school teacher and mentor to many. An outstanding number of her former students and colleagues stayed in touch with her and sought out her entertaining wit and wisdom over the years. Howard Payne University invited her to serve as its first woman on its Board of Trustees.

Vera leaves friends in Moran, Texas, where she grew up and later ranched for the last 40 years, and in Lometa, Texas, an early church where she and Jack served. They also served churches in Lewisville, Brinkley, and Russellville, Arkansas, where many will also miss her. A family graveside service will be held in the spring.

Family members who survive Vera are Jay and Barbra Clack, her grandson Jason (Bobbie), and great-grandchild Jade. All of Santa Fe, New Mexico. Joe and Susie Clack of the ranch in Shackelford and Stephens Counties, Texas. Jon and Sandy Clack; her grandson Jacob (Brigette); great-grandchildren Jack and June; granddaughter Hannah (Matthew Twyman). All of Fort Collins, Colorado. Marza and Cecil Adams, sister and brother-in-law, and nephew Tracy Adams (Kim) of Moran, Texas, and David Adams (Debbie) of Fort Worth, Texas.

The Clack Family wishes to thank and acknowledge the invaluable help and support of Vera by caregiver and great friend Joy Honea; by caregiver Linda Honea; by Beyond Faith Hospice in Graham, Texas; and by Elison Assisted Living & Memory Care of Graham, Texas. They also thank the friends at Matthews Memorial Presbyterian Church in Albany, Texas, for their support and prayers.

Condolences can be made at meltonkitchens.com In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital; to Virginia's House-A Children's Advocacy Center at virginiashousetx.org; to Lee's Legion Chapter of the DAR in Breckenridge, Texas, of which Vera was a longtime member; or to a church or charity of one's choice. Memorials can also be left at Melton-Kitchens Funeral Home.

I am so sorry to read this. Vera was teaching at Russellville Middle School when I began teaching. She was wonderful woman who loved everyone. My prayers for her family.
