Arnold McLemore Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home on Jan. 28, 2026.
West Texas lost an avid fisherman, hunter, and rancher on Sunday, January 25, 2026. Arnold Jerald McLemore, at the age of 86, passed away peacefully at his home with his wife by his side.

Jerald was born June 5, 1939, in Stamford, Texas, to Arnold and Doris McLemore. He grew up in Moran, Texas, and graduated from Moran High School in 1958.

While attending Cisco Junior College and out on a typical cruise night with friends, he met Renate Hildegard Squiers of Eastland, Texas. After a little time and some persistence on Jerald's part, she agreed to a first date. A few years later, they were married on June 3, 1961. They started their new life together in Abilene, Texas, where Jerald worked in the meat market at A & P Grocer.

In 1967, they moved their growing family to Stamford, Texas. There, they started a new family business together with his parents, McLemore Locker Plant. He worked there for over 20 years, side by side with his parents.

After his parents' retirement and the sale of the locker plant, he focused on what he loved most - raising cattle. He loved spending time at his farm and tending to his cows, horses, dogs, geese, chickens, squirrels - any animal that came along. He loved them all. His love for all things outdoors will live on in his kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids.

He also had a love for cars. He started rebuilding cars in a garage in their backyard and eventually bought a shop in town. What started as a hobby became a successful used car business, Mac's Used Cars.

Jerald was definitely a people person and never met a stranger. He made friends everywhere he went and would talk and visit with anyone who stopped to visit with him.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife; daughters Pam Cobb and husband Shane of Stephenville, Texas, and Melissa Collins of Anson, Texas; son Todd McLemore and wife Tammy of Stamford, Texas; grandchildren Stephanie Halladay and husband Brian of Lewisville, Texas, Lauren Ivy and husband Wade of Stamford, Texas, Derek Collins and wife Jenny of Anson, Texas, and Chad Collins and wife Destiny of St. Petersburg, Florida; great-grandchildren Avery Griffin of Lewisville, Texas, William, Emmett, Jase, and Jed Ivy of Stamford, Texas, Conner and Tate Collins of Anson, Texas, and Carolyne and Chase Collins of St. Petersburg, Florida; sister Glinda Martindale and husband Mike of San Angelo; and several nieces and cousins.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
