UPDATE: Visitation is cancelled due to inclement weather. If anyone would like to meet with the family, they can meet after the burial at the Church.

Mary Carolyn Sconce, 85, of Stamford passed away Sunday, January 18, 2026 in Jayton. Visitation will be held at 2:00 p.m. , Sunday, January 25, 2026 in the Kinney-Underwood Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in St. John's Methodist Church with Pastor Phil McClendon officiating with burial to follow in the Highland Memorial Cemetery, Stamford, Texas.

Carolyn was born May 9, 1940 to Grady and Mary (Hunt) Cozby. She was a lifetime resident of Stamford. As a young girl, she played piano in tent revivals with her parents. She is a graduate of Stamford High School after which she attended business classes in Abilene. She was hired by First National Bank in Stamford during the 1960's and continued to work there through the different managing banks until her retirement. Carolyn married Alvin Sconce on May 4, 1962 in Stamford. He passed away April 19, 2024.

She was a Prayer Warrior, member of St. John's Methodist Church and an avid Stamford Bulldog supporter and fan of Lueders-Avoca Raiders for many years. She was a member of the Texas Cowboy Reunion Old Timers Association. Carolyn's focus throughout her life was strengthening her relationship with God, loving and supporting her friends and family, and following all the interests of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons Gary Wimberly and Bryan Sconce; and brother Grady Cozby Jr.

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Cyndi Wimberly of Stamford; grandchildren Eric Hearn, Mandy Barr, Chelsea Sconce, Chay Sconce, Ryan Sconce, Rylee Sconce, Shylee Sconce, Bo Wimberly, Skyler Stone, Kaegan Petty; 10 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sister Juanita Conner of Stamford.
