On December 7, 2025, Jo Ann "Joey" Jones, 93, of Abilene, Texas was welcomed into the arms of Jesus Christ, her Savior. No doubt, a large throng of Joneses was there to witness and ready to celebrate her first Christmas in Heaven. Here on Earth, Jo will be remembered for her quick, dry wit and her generosity, kindness, honesty, enduring patience, ability to keep secrets, and her devotion to family and friends. She could also be a bit particular.
Jo Ann was born July 20, 1932, near Stamford, Texas to Chris Otis and Annie Elizabeth West Jones. She was a member of First Baptist Church in Stamford. After graduating from Stamford High School in 1950, Jo worked at the Grand Theater in Stamford, however, she worked in insurance and bookkeeping well into her eighties. Her insurance career began at Clay Markham Insurance in Stamford where she worked for several years. She continued in the insurance business at Upshaw & Upshaw, also in Stamford, for many years. In the 1980's, Jo moved to Abilene and continued to work in insurance and was also employed as a night-time receptionist at Covenant Place Assisted Living. Jo finished her working days keeping books for Southwest Companies in Abilene.
In addition to her professional career, Jo devoted her life to helping corral her six younger siblings and an older brother and then a brood of five nieces and two nephews. Her care later extended to the generations of "great" and "great-greats", as well, all of whom know her as "Joey".
Jo Ann was preceded in death by her parents, her older brother Otis Henry Jones, sisters Peggy Jones Holbrooks and Martha Jane Jones, younger brother Billy Eugene Jones, and nephews James Allday and Colin Jones.
She is survived by sisters Lonell Jones and Betty Jones Allday; brother Chris S. (Judy) Jones; sister-in-law Jane Jones, nieces Debbie (Bob) Holbrooks Prichard, Jill (Scott) Holbrooks Loar, Tammy (Ken) Holbrooks Baker, Tiffany (David) Allday Doan, and Cozy Jones; several great and great-great nephews and nieces as well as numerous cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Lyndale Assisted Living and the nurses at Enhabit Home Health for their loving care of our dear Joey.
