Vera Harris Obituary
Our beloved Vera Janice Harris departed this life on December 31, 2023 at home where she lived with her babygirl Kiyona. Vera was 70 years old. She was born to the late Naomi and Garrett Stevenson on January 12, 1953 in Dover, Delaware.
Vera was one of ten children. She attended William Henry and Caesar Rodney High School. She loved her family dearly. Her and her oldest brother Wayne were very close and her sister Ramona were the tightest, who she called Mont. Vera loved to sing, dance, laugh, watch horror movies and Jerry Springer. She loved to drink her coffee hot or cold. She loved family functions, barbeques were her favorite. Vera knew how to keep everyone laughing and she would give her last to help anyone she could help. Vera could really work with her hands, she was her family Mrs. Fix It.
In 1994 Vera married the late Donald Harris, who she loved dearly in that marriage. She gained 8 step children. Vera loved everyone. She would say some crazy stuff, like "don' be stupid, dummy" and would fall out laughing. Her family loved her and knew her love was pure. She never would bite her tongue; she said what was on her mind and her family respected her for that.
Vera leaves to cherish her memory her four children: Vernagene Burroughs of Dover, Kisha Stevenson (Dave) of Felton, Jeremiah Stevenson of Dover, Kiyona Stevenson of Dover; one son in law Mark Burroughs and daughter in law Shavonne Stevenson; 10 grandchildren: Twadezia Barbra-Bey (Bart), Tomeshia Stevenson, Jainicqua Stevenson, Tanjha Scott, Taniya scott, Jaydion Scott, Zy'Aireon Scott, Uzziah Scott, and her baby Marquez Stevenson; 11 great grandchildren; two extended children Anja Peace and Dino Morris; four step children: Phyllis Harris of Felton, DE, Elaine Lofland of Milford, DE, Teresa Austin of Dover and Brenda Cannon; her three sisters: Ramona Spruance (Nathan) of Dover, Victoria Stevenson of Dover, Wannetta Johnson (William) of Dover; two brothers Gregory Stevenson (Sandra) of Bridgeville, DE and Mark Stevenson (Cheryl) of Dover. Vera is also missed by two special friends Linda Lewis and Patricia Walls.
Vera is preceded in death in death by her mother and father, Garrett and Naomi Stevenson, her husband Donald Harris, her two brothers Roy Stevenson and Wayne Stevenson; her two sisters Bernadette Hazzard and Shirlet Harris; her children's father David Morris; and four step children.
A funeral service will be 1:00 P.M. Saturday, January 13, 2024 at M.F.Chase United Memorial Church, Voshells Mill Star Hill Road, Dover, DE 19901 where there will be a viewing from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. Saturday.
