Verda Urevig, age 89 of Watertown, SD passed away on February 2, 2026 in Watertown.

Memorial service will be at 10:30am on February 20, 2026 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown.

Visitation will be from 5:00 - 7:00pm on February 19, 2026 at the Wight & Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD.

Interment will be at the St. Mary's Cemetery in Watertown.

Verda Lois Urevig, 1936-2026, age 89, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026, at home with her loving family by her side. Verda was born on September 25, 1936, in Sisseton, SD, to Ole Christian Olson and Alma Helene Vig. She graduated from New Effington High School with the class of 1955. She married her partner of 61 years, Arthur Anthony (Tony) Urevig on July 19, 1959, in Sisseton, SD.

Verda was a true original-an 89-year-old force of joy, grit, and laughter who loved life as much as life loved her back. She adored dancing to classic country, baking her famous bread and lefse, and turning ordinary days into memories worth keeping. Her grandchildren learned the art of breadmaking at her side, delighting in stomping dough, feet wrapped in plastic baggies, in a giant container on the floor while she laughed right along with them. She loved her family fiercely and they loved her back.

Verda faced every challenge with optimism and determination, her extraordinary will to live, inspiring all who knew her. An accomplished artist and wood carver, her exquisitely detailed Christmas scenes are awe-inspiring, reflecting her patience, precision, and creativity. There are endless stories of the funny "oops" moments she created that still make people laugh aloud. Once you knew her, you never forgot her. Verda exemplified a positivity that will be remembered by all who knew her.

She is survived by her children, Kelly (Mike) Frankenfield of Faribault, MN, Kerry (Steve) Backholm of Walker, MN, Sarah (Patrick) Wanner, Julie Urevig, and Paul (Regena) Urevig all of Watertown, SD; and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lauren, Jenna, 'Tony', Caleb, Jeff, Charlie, Barret, Jesse and Melody.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Tony; son, John; her parents, Ole and Alma; and her sister, Dorothy.
