John J. Urevig ObituaryJohn Joseph Urevig, 1966-2025, age 59, of Ghent, MN, passed away on Saturday, June 21, 2025 in Sisseton, SD while on a fishing trip with his brother, cousins and brother-in-law. Anticipating the weekend with his family, he texted them a message – "My cousins were one of the reasons my childhood was so awesome."
There will be a public Memorial Visitation held at Wight and Comes Funeral Chapel in Watertown, SD from 2:00-5:00 PM on Sunday, June 29, 2025.
John was born on February 1, 1966 in Watertown, SD to Arthur "Tony" and Verda Urevig. He graduated from Watertown High School with the class of 1984, attended Montana State University in Missoula, Montana and was a member of the South Dakota National Guard. He worked as a bricklayer for Urevig Masonry, the family business, with his dad and brother. He was a member of the Bricklayer's and Allied Craftworkers (BAC) Union.
He met the love of his life, Julie Petersen, on September 22, 2010. They were married on July 13, 2024. He lived with Julie and his two beloved dogs, Emma and Ellie, in Ghent, MN.
First and foremost, John loved his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time camping and fishing. In the last few weeks, he participated in a fishing tournament with high school buddies and his brother. They named the group "Old Fishing Friends." His group took first place on one of the tournament days catching the two biggest walleyes.
He is survived by his wife, Julie; his mother, Verda Urevig; his three step daughters, Elizabeth "Liz" Bunjer (Travis DeVos), Catherine "Katie" Kuehl, Caroline (Taylor) Greve; his sisters, Kelly (Michael) Frankenfield of Faribault, MN, Kerry (Steve) Backholm of Walker, MN, Sarah (Patrick) Wanner; his brother, Paul (Regena) Urevig of Watertown, SD; many nieces, nephews and eight step-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur "Tony" Urevig.
