Nathan Engbarth Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Kinzley Funeral Home - Salem on Feb. 20, 2026.
Nathan Engbarth, 48, of Canistota passed away on Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Monument Health in Rapid City, SD. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am, with visitation one hour prior, on Friday, February 27, 2026 at the United Church in Canistota, SD. Visitation with family present will be held from 5 – 7 pm on Thursday, with a short prayer service at 6:30 pm, all at the church. In honor of Nathan's love for the Vikings, please dress in Vikings apparel or colors for the visitation.

Nathan Allen Engbarth was born on September 28, 1977 in Pipestone, MN to Patrick and Cynthia (Scotting) Engbarth. He graduated from Russell Tyler Ruthton High School in 1996. Nathan lived in Ruthton, MN, where he farmed and worked on wind towers. He then moved to Canistota, SD in 2007 to work with his brothers at EDD, Inc. Nathan married Nicole DeMent on June 19, 2021 at the United Church of Canistota.

Nathan loved riding horse, especially Chuck, watching the Minnesota Vikings, talking football with his son, Riley, and riding bulls in his younger years. He cherished time with his family and especially enjoyed vacations and going on cruises with Nicole, Riley and Emily.

Nathan is survived by: his wife, Nicole of Canistota; children, Riley (Emily) of Ivanhoe, MN, Jenna of Watertown, SD, and Aidan of Philip, SD; parents, Patrick (Cynthia) Engbarth of Canistota; brothers, Brad (Malinda) and Justin (Carla), all of Canistota; his dog, Rip and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and other relatives.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Georgianna Engbarth, and Tom and Margaret Scotting, as well as many beloved family members, a very special uncle and mentor Rich DeRuyter, and dear friend Larry Koenig.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred and will be put towards a charity of the family's choice.
