Delores and family, May God Bless you in this sad time of Vergil’s passing. Growing up watching him in his craft as his little buddy, will always bring fond memories. The quality of his workmanship was undeniable, and his patience and kindness will not be forgotten. Pax Christi!

We are thinking of you today. It’s so difficult to say goodbye to the ones we love. Thankfully you will still have endless wonderful memories of your dad.

Marietta, it´s so difficult to lose a dad like your dad! Knowing he will live with God and you will have all those precious memories of him will tenderly help you through the sad days ahead. We love you.

Dear Delores and family - my sincere condolences to you all for the loss of Vergil. Vergil was such a spark of life and happiness whenever our families got together through the years. I especially recall with fondness my pheasant hunts together with Vergil and my dad - it was pure joy. Vergil and Delores were life-long close friends with my parents - Duane and Darlene - generating so many great memories. I will surely keep you all in my prayers!

Dear Delores n family - such saddness for the loss of Vergil.He could always brighten a person's day with his smile and kindness. Vergil n Delores were my second set of parents growing up-Homemade ice cream, player piano, Delores playin accordian, 3 older sisters i adopted along with Grandpa Benz-what happy n wonderful memories to cherish forever. Vergil's Obituaries

Vergil C. Benz, 91, of Sioux Falls passed away peacefully into the arms of his Savior with his family surrounding him on Tuesday, July 1, 2025 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.  His funeral service will begin at 11 AM on Thursday, July 10, 2025 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church with family present one hour prior to greet guests.

Vergil Benz was born May 22, 1934 on a farm near White, SD to Vernon and Grace (Krueger) Benz.  He grew up in White where he attended District 60 school. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. In 1953 he moved to Sioux Falls and started his carpentry career working for various contractors. In 1964, he started his own company, Benz Construction. Vergil’s compassion for people led him to form a second family-run business to provide clean, comfortable, affordable living accommodations for Sioux Falls residents for over 50 years.

On April 24, 1955 Vergil married Delores Leins in Hendricks, MN. This union was blessed with 3 children, Marietta, Lynette, and Delora. Vergil enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, and the treasured time spent with family and friends.

He is survived by his wife of 70 years, Delores of Sioux Falls; his daughters, Marietta (Paul) Kornick of San Tan Valley, AZ, Lynette (Jesse) Buckmiller of Sioux Falls and Delora (Chuck) Sands of Appleton, WI; 8 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.  He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters, DeLores and Veatrice and 2 brothers, Oliver and LaVern.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Lord of Life Lutheran Church. 2600 S Sycamore Ave, Sioux Falls SD 57110.
