Verla Borgen Obituary
Funeral services will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, December 7, 2021 at Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford, SD with Rev. Denise Broverak officiating. Burial will follow at the Hartford Cemetery.
Visitation will be Monday December 6th from 5:00 PM to – 7:00 PM at Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford.
In lieu of flowers family wish memorials to be directed to the Christ Lutheran Christian Education fund.
Verla Jean Borgen was born April 8, 1949 in Sioux Falls, SD to Duane and Victoria (Krogstad) Howe. She was raised in the Baltic area and graduated from Baltic High School. She continued her education at South Dakota State University earning a bachelor's degree in Education.
Verla started her teaching career in Philip, SD and continued for 35 years at West Central Highschool as a math teacher. Her greatest enjoyment of teaching was seeing her students grow as individuals and hearing of their personal success after graduation.
Her favorite hobbies included quilting, sewing, along with landscape photography of countryside scenes.
After retirement Verla continued with her teaching by tutoring, substitute teaching and traveling to warmer climates during the winter.
Verla is survived by her husband, Darrell Borgen of Hartford, SD; daughter, Amy Borgen of Sioux Falls, SD; son, Cory (Janson Exner) Borgen of Hartford, SD; grandchildren, Taylor and Hadley Borgen; mother, Vicky Howe of Sioux Falls, SD; brothers, Don (Linda) Howe of Lincoln, NE and Dennis (Barb) Howe of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, nephews and other extended family members.
She was preceded in death by her father, Duane Howe.
