Verla Foutch-Franklin was born July 22, 1935, in Thackerville, Love County Oklahoma to Jason Frederick Foutch and Ellen Juanita Davenport. The family moved to Sunnyside, Washington when she was very young and settled eventually in Monroe, Oregon where her father was a full-time logger and a part-time evangelist for the Church of Christ, traveling in the rural areas of Oregon to help build the church.
Verla was introduced to the love of her life, E.J. (Edward) Franklin by his cousin Donna Curtis-Porter who was a long-time friend of Verla's. Their early years were spent near the family in Albany, Oregon, eventually moving to Vashon Island, Washington where E.J. learned to weld and worked on many important projects. Verla was a stay-at-home mother to Edward Randall Franklin and Karen Colleen Franklin-Scott, until she was convinced to go into politics where she was the Republican Representative for the 33rd district in Burien, Washington, holding that office until she had her youngest daughter, Ramona Kay Franklin-Farrell.
Verla was a master craftsman, she quilted, smocked, tatted, crocheted, and could master anything that she put her mind to. She passed these skills on to her daughters and grandchildren.
She was an active member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and was a National 1st place award winner both in the State and National for her smocked dresses. Winning the State and National awards allowed her to give back to the Veterans with these dresses being presented for auction so that monies could help veterans at the Fischer House.
Nothing gave her more pleasure than to hear her grandchildren sing the Lord's hymns. As she passed on the greatest gift, the love of the Lord.
Verla is survived by her son, Edward Randall Franklin (Shari Gilley), daughter, Karen Collen Franklin-Scott (Michael Scott), and daughter, Ramona Kay Franklin-Farrell (Robert Farrell). She is also survived by her sister Barbara Foutch-Turner, and sister-in-law Marvita Foutch, grandchildren: Jason Franklin (Andrea Peavyhouse), Jami Franklin, Faith Scott-Kirk (Douglas Kirk), Erin Scott-Everett (Jordan Everett), Sean Edward Scott (Ariel Wendt), Robert Farrell (Sarah), Rebecca Farrell-Gilman (Lionel Gilman), step grandchildren: Sandy Scott-Howell (Terry Howell) and Kimberly Scott-Moran (Mike Moran), great grandchildren: Trevor Franklin, Tucker Franklin, Arya Kirk, James Kirk, Avacyn Everett, Samuel Everett, and Lilly Franklin.
Verla's life was full and overflowing with her love for Christ and her family, she was a remarkable woman that strove very hard to instill the values she believed into her family. She will be missed by all that call her Mother, Mimi, and friend. She is now with the love of her life waiting to be called home
We love you.
