Verlyn Elaine Dentel passed away peacefully March 22, 2025 surrounded by her loving family following a brief illness in Sun City West, AZ.
Verlyn (Lynn) was born in Ackley, Iowa on April 20, 1935 to Reuben and Hattie Janssen Weber. Following graduation from Ackley-Geneva High School, she attended Iowa Methodist School of Nursing in Des Moines and became a Registered Nurse. Following graduation, Lynn married Robert V. Dentel (Bob) and made their home in Des Moines where she worked at Iowa Methodist Hospital.
Lynn and Bob moved to Wisconsin to begin Bob's Banking career and in 1965, they bought controlling interest in the Victor State Bank, and moved to Victor, Iowa. Lynn joined him in the bank in the late 1960's to provide temporary secretarial assistance but remained by his side and became Vice President of the bank and worked there for some 25 years. They formed Dentel Bancorporation and purchased several banks over the years and worked with their children Tom, Bob and Mary to carry on their legacy. Lynn remained active on the Boards of their banks and the Dentel Bancorporation until her death.
In retirement, they returned to Des Moines and wintered in Sun City West, AZ. They traveled the world and met many wonderful people. They hiked the Grand Canyon, Isle Royale and loved hiking in Arizona and Colorado. Through the years, Lynn was active in the PEO, Des Moines Symphony Guild, Calligraphy Club, Music Club, Rock Hounding Club, Sonoran Sounds Women's Chorale, and Rock Creek Spouse Support Group. Her Iowa Methodist classmates remained friends and met monthly for lunch. Lynn was a gifted pianist and enjoyed singing through the years. She was strong in her faith, very strong willed and was treasured by those who knew and loved her. She commented often how very lucky she was in life, including living an active full life until the end.
She is survived by her son Robert (Patty) Dentel and Grand Children Jonathan (Cathrine), Katie, and Abbey (Dustin) Deppe. Daughters Mary (Stephen) Howell and Grand Children James, John and Sarah. Kathryn (Hank) Anderson and Grand Children Molly, Sophie and Elizabeth. Olivia Deppe was her Great Grand Daughter. Nephews were Eric (Lauren) Weber and Tim (Michelle) Weber.
She was preceded in death by her Parents, her Husband, her Son Thomas and her Brother Marvin Weber.
Visitation will begin at 10:30 a.m., Monday, March 31 at Plymouth Congregational UCC in Des Moines. Her funeral will be at 11:30 a.m.
She will be Interred with her husband of 60+ years at the Iowa Veterans Cemetery, Van Meter, Iowa at 9:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 1.
