Janet May Dentel

Janet May Dentel (Schiets), 84 yrs of Deerfield, MI, died Saturday, January 31, 2026, in her home under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Friday, February 6, 2026, from 10AM until the service at 12PM. Pastor Josh Ellis of New Life Church will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI.

Born January 8, 1942, in Belleville, OH, Janet was the daughter of Eugene and Lucile (Upton) Schiets. She was a 1960 Fremont Ross High School Graduate. She later earned her associate's degree in business from Monroe County Community College in 1996. She married Richard Dentel on March 2, 1964, in Milan, MI. Richard died December 24, 2024. Janet worked as a tax professional for H&R Block for 5 years. She also made wedding cakes. She was a member of New Life Church and prepared communion bread for over 20 yrs. For 15 years, people would wait in line for her pies at farmers markets in Adrian and Temperance. She loved roller skating (which is how she met Richard), sewing, knitting, crocheting and painting ceramics.

Survivors include: her children, Timothy (Andrea) Dentel, Donna (Oke) Maertin, Tonya (Jason) Bess; a brother Darl Schiets; grandchildren, Allen (Jen), Anna, Samuel, Liliana and 4 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband and parents.
