Philip "Red" McMahon

Philip "Red" McMahon, 93 yrs of Deerfield died Sunday February 15, 2026, in hishome surrounded by his loving family under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. He will lie-in-state on Saturday February 21, 2026, from 9-11AM until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11AM at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church (Light of Christ Parish), Deerfield, MI. Fr. Bob Pienta will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI.

Born March 3, 1932, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, Red was the son of Patrick and Grace (Hower) McMahon. He was a1950 Deerfield High school Graduate. He married Margie Swehla in 1964, and Margie later died in 2002. Red later married Juanita LaPan on April26, 2003, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Deerfield. Red served honorably in the Korean War with the US Army. He was a proud veteran along with his brothers. He was a big equipment operator with Dundee Cement for over 30 yrs, retiring in 1996. Red was a member of the American Legion and St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Deerfield, MI. He loved cutting wood, stacking wood & burning wood. He loved spending time at their cabin in Mio. He & Juanita went dancing often at the VFW's with a great group of friends. They also loved going to the Walnut Bar on Tuesdays with another group of friends. He was a handyman & could fix just about anything. He also had great memories of good times in the 70's with the neighbors & friends. Earlier in life he liked farming and driving the Case tractor at Stan Woods farm and owning and working at the Gulf Gas Station with his brother Bill McMahon. He loved telling stories from his childhood in Parkersburg and when they moved to Detroit and from there to Deerfield.

Survivors include: his wife Juanita; children, Christopher (Michelle) McMahon, Kelley (David) Yoder, stepson JC Goodson and grandchildren, Alisha, Nicholas, CJ, Savannah and Jamison. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1st wife, 3 sisters and 7 brothers.
