Verna Ouellette Akerley

Verna (Akerley) Ouellette passed peacefully from a brief illness on February 25, 2026. She was born 10/5/1939 and raised in New Brunswick Canada to the late Albert and Alphena (Viel) Akerley. She was predeceased by her beloved husband Roger and son Michael Ouellette, her sisters Doreen Dionne, Nancy St. Pierre, brother Jacques Akerley, brother-in-law George Ouellette and her dear friend Bruno Varasconi. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Karen and Robert Varasconi, daughter-in-law Melanie Ouellette, grandsons William Varasconi, Matthew Ouellette and fiancé Jeremy Crowell, Eric Ouellette and wife Faye, sister Rita Prentice, brothers Edward and Roger Akerley. Sister-in-laws Marie- Therese Ouellette and Rita Thibeault along with many nieces and nephews.

Verna started working as a telephone operator in her single days and married on September 5, 1959. She m oved to Connecticut five years later and became a US citizen. She raised two children and helped her family and friends whenever possible. She loved all kinds of crafts and thoroughly enjoyed shopping and working many years as a Quality Assurance Inspector at Johnson and Johnson until her unfortunate loss of her vision. She adapted to her blindness with her determined spirit and continued to cook, sew, crochet and later learned Braille in her 70's. She always looked forward to playing cards with her family and especially enjoyed winning. She was a true inspiration to anyone who knew her because of her positive attitude and will be sorely missed. In lieu of flowers please send donations to: The National Federation of the Blind
