Verna Marie (Johnson) Baker, 97, of Scurry, TX passed away on January 6, 2024. Verna was born on October 14, 1926, to Clarence and Lillie Johnson in the Cash Community. In 1944 she married William Ray Tapp who passed away on September 30, 1980. In 1987 she married Charles Ovid Baker in Garland, TX and he passed away on June 5, 1996. Verna was a member of the Eastern Star and worked with and taught preschoolers in Sunday School at Orchid Hills Baptist Church in Garland, TX for 29 years. She also worked with Senior Adults and planned trips for seniors in the church. Verna worked as a drapery maker, seamstress for most of her career. Verna was a beloved Wife, Mother and Grandmother. Her parents, Clarence and Lillie, both husbands, and daughter Leisa Simmons preceded her in death. Those left to cherish her memory are daughter Nancy Higdon and husband Jim, son Matthew Tapp and wife Debra, grandchildren: Stephanie Orton, Michael Miller, Wendell Tapp, Chris Banks, William Tapp, Peter Lott and Robin Lott; 11 great grandchildren; numerous extended family and friends who will miss her dearly.
